The Scariest Thing About Halloween Isn’t the Monsters

Ahhhhh, fall. I love the changing leaves, the warm sweaters, and the return of pumpkin spice. But the best part? Halloween — the start of the holiday season and, in my opinion, the best holiday of the year. Halloween is great, but I understand it’s not for everybody. Who cares about the free candy and the chance to be a different person for the night, right? All the scary movies that come on and the spooky music to fill the atmosphere. I’m actually the world’s biggest scaredy-cat, but hey, even I can appreciate a good holiday when I see one.  With Halloween around the corner, I’ve decided to take a trip down memory lane of past Halloween experiences. There was a time I was with my cousin, and as we walked to a stranger’s front door begging for candy, a grown man popped out of the bush and grabbed at our ankles. Pieces of candy flew as little-girl screams echoed through the crisp air. And yes, that grown man laughed at us. I also remember the time I invited a friend over to go trick...

War’s Forgotten Victims: The Animals Left Behind

I know this doesn’t fall into my usual playful (and downright hilarious) posts — but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be discussed. When I started this blog, I knew I wanted to talk about things I like AND the things that matter. So no, we’re not diving into some A-list celebrity’s red carpet look or which big couple is calling it splits… this week, we are exploring how the media pays no attention to the animals that suffer in war. This idea first struck me when I watched HBO’s limited-series Chernobyl . It’s a great show, based on real events — it’s a 10/10… so yes I highly recommend. In one of the episodes, we see the empty city of Chernobyl, Ukraine with an infiltrating fog in the air. And though it looks like a Call of Duty map, there at the bottom of the screen appears a pack of dogs. Later on, some man in charge (forgive me, I don’t remember names) orders for all pets left behind to be rounded up… and shot. If you’re unaware, Chernobyl is referring to a Ukrainian nuclear power pla...

I Always Come Back: A Love Letter to FNaF

Yes, I was that type of kid, the one who was hyperfixated on murdered children seeking revenge while my friends were watching High School Musical . I lived and breathed Five Nights at Freddy’s (FNaF). I consumed enormous amounts of content about this video game… thank you, Markiplier. I did not shut up for years and at the same time, I had no one to talk to. This story was so addicting, and to this day, I still can’t remember every piece of lore that it carries. FNaF, created by Scott Cawthon, is a point-and-click survival horror video game first released in 2014. This game became such a big hit that the story later became a franchise, now claiming different types of media like video games (duh), novels, comic books, and films. FNaF has become a global phenomenon that is referenced on a daily basis in conversations, memes, and — unfortunately — porn. (For all that is holy, please stop searching for it.) Now buckle up because I am diving into the lore of the Freddy franchise. I’ll keep...

No One’s Hotter Than the Calm, Cool, Collected Phillies

It should be duly noted that when I begin to discuss how hot the Philadelphia Phillies, a major league baseball team, is, I’m referring to attractiveness, not gameplay. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge Phillies fan and have been since birth. I’ve been to numerous games, three this past season, and in recent years started paying more attention to the rules of baseball, how other teams are doing, and why some plays are so amazing to see. Despite all this, I am not a baseball expert. However, I believe I am an expert in men’s hotness, especially because some people (sorry to call you out) swear up and down that this or that celebrity is hot when he in fact is not. Too many people are delusional these days! All in all, the Philadelphia Phillies are for the girls, gays, and straight men who can recognize attractiveness, regardless of gender. With the playoff season underway, it’s more important now than ever that the Phillies do what they know best. In my opinion, the team knows how to have ...
